On Thursday around 2:50 p.m., deputies received reports that a person brandished a gun on a southbound Metrolink train which was between the Santa Clarita and Newhall Stations, said Lt. Richard Hoffman, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Metrolink Bureau.

“We coordinated with Santa Clarita Valley deputies,” Hoffman said.

Once the train arrived at the Newhall Metrolink Station the suspect was pointed out to awaiting deputies by a security officer who was on the train, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“When we made contact the individual had a loaded firearm in a backpack which was originally on his person,” Hoffman said.

Deputies arrested Angel Garcia, 53, of Los Angeles, and charged him with being in possession of a concealed loaded firearm in public and being in possession of a loaded firearm which was not registered to him, Hoffman said.

Garcia was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Jail with bail set at $35,000, according to Sheriff’s officials.

  1. Trying to understand his crime, as it did not seem clear from the article. Was he threatening people with it or just bearing arms according to the second amendment to the US Constitution. What are the specific charges? It is certainly illegal to threaten or inntimidate with ay weapon: gun, knife, bat, golf club, etc. And is that what happend? Or is he charged for simply having the gun and / or not registering it with the government? Thanks for clarity. With appreciation…

  2. I thought Metrolink had their own officers on board? What is the point of paying for services if SCV cops do their work.

    • The Metrolink officers are security officers. The job of security is protection and prevent crimes. Then to report violators to law enforcement. The job of law enforcement is not to protect like everyone seems to think, but to investigate crimes and apprehend violators.
This incident was handled with text book efficiency. No one got hurt and the violator can now have his day in court. It is obvious he knew he was carrying illegally since he tried to hide it in the back pack after he was seen with it.

  3. Metrolink trains are under LA county sheriffs jurisdiction no matter what city they travel through even in the city of LA they are still LA county Sheriffs juridiction, without a concealled carry permit, a firearm must be transported in california unloaded and in a locked container we dont have the same 2nd amendment rights in calif as other states do

  4. GARCIA from the Lanc. Metrolink station—was he going to LA, the valley or race/railroad areas of Newhall to cause more troubles ?!?!

  5. Multiple Felonies—1st time? Or a career criminal?!?! Why is it out on the streets?!?!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
