A transient was taken into custody Monday evening on several felony charges after he allegedly shot a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detective vehicle with a pellet gun in Santa Clarita.
Around 6:30 p.m. Monday, deputies were alerted by an off-duty detective of a man walking eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road near Camp Plenty Road in Canyon Country carrying a rifle, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The male was last seen entering the brush area north of Soledad Canyon Road,” Arriaga said.
As deputies were preparing to conduct a search of the brush area, they heard the sound of metal being struck, according to Arriaga.
“Deputies learned the off-duty detective’s vehicle had been struck by a high velocity object, causing damage,” Arriaga said.

Deputies conducted a search of a nearby homeless encampment and located a man matching the suspect description.
“During a search of a tent the male was found in, deputies located a pellet rifle,” Arriaga said.
The individual was positively identified as the suspect during a field identification.
Luis Huerta Aguilar, a transient, was arrested on assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and vandalism, all felonies, Arriaga added.
Aguilar was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail to be booked.
