The Castaic woman who had been charged with theft from the Blue Star Mothers’ Chapter that she was president of pleaded no contest in court and accepted a plea deal Tuesday.

Karianne Lee Dauer-Hewitt, 45, appeared Tuesday in San Fernando Superior Court, where she entered her plea and was ordered to pay close to $6,789 in restitution, according to officials.
“On Jan. 9, the defendant pleaded no contest to a felony count of grand theft of personal property,” said Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “Dauer-Hewitt is scheduled to be sentenced April 10 in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch.”

Regardless of whether she pays the restitution or not by her next court date, officials believe she will be sentenced to probation and community service.
“At that court appearance, the defendant is expected to be sentenced to three years of formal probation,” said Ardalani. “Also, she will be ordered to serve 30 days of community labor and pay restitution.”
Dauer-Hewitt was the former president of the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of the Military, and formerly an admin for Facebook group SCV Emergency Now. She was removed from the group, which posts crime, fire and emergency information, once the group’s admin learned of the charges.

Dauer-Hewitt was was arraigned in April of 2017 for stealing somewhere between $2,000 to $7,000 from the nonprofit Blue Star Mothers of America’s Santa Clarita Valley chapter, according to officials with the District Attorney’s Office.
One of the well-known activities associated with the Blue Star Mothers of America’s is large shipments of care packages, which are sent to troops serving overseas.
