Child Endangerment Suspect Arrested After Unserialized Firearm Found ‘Stored In Stove’

A Saugus man was arrested for felony child endangerment Tuesday after he allegedly had an unserialized firearm within the reach of children.

Around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, detectives served a search warrant at a residence with a firearm on the 27900 block of Newbird Circle in Saugus, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies contacted a man who was found to be in possession of an unserialized firearm with ammunition, according to officials.

“The firearm was stored in a stove, in a garage, accessible to children residing in the home,” Arriaga said.

Juan Garcia Marquez, 36, from Saugus, was ultimately arrested for felony child endangerment and possession of an unserialized firearm, Arriaga added.

The suspect was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and later released on bond, according to Arriaga.

  1. Glad Juan Marquez’s children never found the Ghost Gun before a tragedy happened!

  2. We grew up with many guns in the house and enough training and education to not make that a scary or dangerous situation. Are we going to criminalize leaving car keys out and about or call access to fatty foods child endangerment next?

  3. Even gun enthusiasts know that children are curious and impulsive, and that guns should be stored in a place where they can’t access them.

  4. Ann, true,,emotionally normal children should be curious , but uncontrollable impulsive children need therapy for self control, or they will turn into teens/adults with the same bad behaviors/lifestyles! That’s why it’s so important to teach youngsters self control, manners & good behaviors/lifestyles!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
