A Canyon Country murder suspect accused of stabbing his rehab acquaintance to death in 2018 returned to court Friday, officials said.
David Alonso Figueroa, 35, of Pacoima, is on trial for the 2018 murder of 30-year-old Brent Hariston, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Figueroa is accused of stabbing Hariston near his Dewdrop Avenue home in Canyon Country on July 30, 2018, said Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
The two met in rehab, Corina said.
Around 5:30 a.m. on July 30, 2018, Figueroa allegedly came to the house to pick up Hariston for work, according to Sheriff’s officials.

At some point, an argument broke out between the two men, Corina said during a press conference from the scene.
It is unclear why the argument started, but it ended with the suspect allegedly stabbing the victim multiple times in the upper chest, Corina said.
The victim’s mother came outside to see what the commotion was and called 9-1-1 when she saw her son had been stabbed.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Figueroa had reportedly fled into the neighborhood on foot, according to officials.
A containment was established, and Figueroa was eventually found hiding in a backyard, according to law enforcement officials.
He was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including murder. Bail was set at $2 million.
Figueroa is set to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Oct. 9.
