A 21-year-old DUI suspect who was arrested in February after he allegedly failed to stop at a red light and caused a fatal Canyon Country crash returned to court last week, only to have his case delayed.
Joshua David Austin, of Santa Clarita, is charged with one felony count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, first responders received a call for a crash involving a pickup truck and two other vehicles at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Sand Canyon Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a Ford Ranger pickup, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Prius which had been involved in the collision.

Officials say the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, Austin, was traveling westbound on Soledad Canyon Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a red light and collided with the driver’s side of the Hyundai Elantra.
“The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Sheriff’s officials.
Meaghan York, 21, of Canyon Country, was killed in the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the third vehicle, a Toyota Prius, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.
Austin is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 23 for another preliminary hearing setting.
