Saugus Man Pleads Not Guilty To Charges Of Lewd Acts Upon A Child

A Saugus man pled not guilty on New Year’s Eve to charges of lewd acts upon a child that stems from an incident at the Westfield Valencia Town Center in late December.

Andres Madrigal, 69, of Saugus, is charged with one felony count of a “lewd and lascivious act upon and with the body and certain parts of … a child under the age of 14 years,” according to officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Just before 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of possible sex crimes against a minor in the patios of the Valencia mall, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“We had multiple units respond to that location,” said Deputy Ed Luna with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau at the time. “An informant said that they saw a person inappropriately touch a minor.”

A boy under the age of 14 contacted his parent after the alleged assault, which occurred in a restroom near a playground in the patios, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The parent contacted mall security, who then called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Madrigal was booked on $100,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to arrest records.

He is set to return to court on Friday, Jan. 10, for a pretrial setting.
