A driver is in custody Thursday after allegedly crashing their vehicle on the 14 Freeway and fleeing from law enforcement, hiding in the surrounding brush, officials said.
Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, officers with the California Highway Patrol received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 14 Freeway at Agua Dulce Canyon Road, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.
Shortly after units arrived at the scene, the driver started running, according to CHP officials.
“He ran down the freeway through a drainage ditch, which drains water from one side of the freeway to the other, and hid in some brush,” Greengard said. “We were able to find him rather quickly.”
The suspect was taken into custody around 11 a.m. by CHP officers and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies, who assisted in the capture, officials said.
As of the publication of this article, CHP officers are still actively investigating why the suspect ran from the scene, Greengard said.
