A Sylmar woman was arrested in Canyon Country Sunday for child endangerment after allegedly driving at almost twice the legal limit of alcohol with a 5-year-old in her car, officials said.
Isabel Martinez, 31, was arrested shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.
At around 12:15 a.m, deputies responded to the 19200 of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, according to Miller.
“A deputy was flagged down by a citizen who had reported the driver,” Miller said. “The driver was accelerating at a high rate of speed, almost hit a vehicle, and ran the curb.”
Martinez was reportedly unable to pass a sobriety test, and her blood alcohol content (BAC) was found to be at .14, almost twice the state limit of .08.
Because Martinez reportedly had a 5-year-old child in the vehicle with her, she was also charged with a felony for child endangerment, as well as DUI, according to Miller.
“The child was unharmed,” Miller said.
Martinez was transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where bail was set at $100,000.
