Lewd Act On Minor At Westfield Valencia Town Center Under Investigation By Special Victims Bureau

An alleged lewd act on a minor at the Westfield Valencia Town Center last week is under active investigation Monday, officials said.

On Friday, deputies arrested Andres Madrigal, 69, of Saugus, on suspicion of attempted lewd acts upon a child, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The case has been handed off to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau for investigation, according to Miller.

Just before 3 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of possible sex crimes against a minor in the patios of the Valencia mall, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“We had multiple units respond to that location,” said Deputy Ed Luna with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau at the time. “An informant said that they saw a person inappropriately touch a minor.”

A boy under the age of 14 contacted his parent after the alleged assault, which occurred in a restroom near a playground in the patios, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The parent contacted mall security, who then called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Madrigal is being held on $100,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to arrest records.
