Eric Landeen, 47, a Santa Clarita Valley resident, was arrested for an outstanding $100,000 misdemeanor warrant, in addition to a domestic violence charge.

A woman who was a passenger in a truck managed to get the attention of a Los Angeles Police Department officer who happened to be driving nearby on the northbound side of Highway 14, south of the Sand Canyon and north of Via Princessa exits, around 8:15 a.m., according to CHP officers.

The alleged victim indicated to the LAPD officer she was in need of help, said Lt. Rob Hahnlein of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“She was fearful,” Hahnlein said, citing the report. “She felt she was being held against her will.”

The LAPD officer pulled the vehicle over on the center median, and the suspect fled from his truck, running across the northbound lanes of the freeway and onto the shoulder.

At that point, an off-duty, uniformed military officer observed what was happening, pulled over, chased down the suspect and tackled him, securing him in a hold while the LAPD officer detained him and local law enforcement officials arrived on scene.

California Highway Patrol officers initially responded to the scene because of the location of the incident, and then handed the investigation over to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to CHP officials.

Landeen is still being investigated regarding this morning’s incident, deputies expect more charges to follow. He was taken for a medical evaluation due to a scrape he reportedly received before law enforcement officials had arrived on scene, officials said.

He will remain in the custody of Sheriff’s Station officials once he is medically cleared.

His most recent arrest was May 2, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records. On May 3, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor disobeying a domestic relations court order and vandalism, and sentenced to 36 months of summary or unsupervised probation.

A warrant was put out for his arrest after a June 16 restitution hearing on the vandalism charge.

He has a history of numerous arrests with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.

The woman declined medical attention from authorities, officials said.
