Over 40 citations were issued for speeding on San Francisquito Canyon Road Wednesday morning, with one driver clocked at 111 miles per hour, officials said.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall officers were on San Francisquito Canyon Road during the morning commute hours on Wednesday, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the office.
In five hours, officers wrote a total of 43 citations, one of which was over 110 miles per hour, according to Greengard.
Officers wrote two citations for suspended driver’s licenses and they impounded one of those vehicles, according to the spokesperson.

This comes at the heels of a similar operation on Sierra Highway last week in which nearly 50 citations were issued, according to the CHP.
“It is alarming to see the number of citations officers are writing for excessive speeds on California roadways,” said CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley in a statement. “Higher speeds can lead to much more serious injuries and significantly increase the chance of death should a crash occur.”
CHP officials have noted an increase in speeding across California since the beginning of the statewide stay-at-home orders issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the first month of these orders, the CHP reported issuing 2,493 citations statewide for speeding more than 100 mph, as compared to 1,335 during the same period last year, representing an 87 percent increase.

Speeeding on San Francisquito has been an issue for many years. I used to live up in Lake Elizabeth. A lot of commuters are short cutting through to the AV. I’m glad I’m not part of that rat race any more.
Everyone who lives here can attest that this is a VERY dangerous thing that we see EVERY DAY! Kinda strange, then, that LE and KHTS act like this is a new thing! HELLO! We need constant pressure here to stop this! We see horrific accidents that occur because of excessive speed all the time! Law Enforcement should put a permanent officer there, as well as Soledad Cyn.on both sides of Galeton/River Circle going both down the hill from Sand Cyn. towards Sierra Hwy. AND from Solemint going towards Sand Cyn. Cars and motorcycles are driving crazy speeds there every day and night 24/7!!! There are other spots in SC just as bad, and they could make BOO-COO BUCKS doing so, but the Sheriffs obviously don’t think these things are important and DONT CARE!! Okay, I said it! They’d rather clean up the road pizza one after another AFTER the fact! SO sick of this!
