Reported Drug-, Alcohol-Related Arrests Decrease After Mid-Month Spike

The number of drug- and alcohol-related arrests reported over the past weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley have begun to decrease after last weekend’s mid-month spike, officials said.

Between Friday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 24, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office reportedly made 38 arrests, according to weekend arrest records.

Almost 60 percent of those total arrests were reportedly related to drugs and alcohol, with 12 reported incidents of DUI, six incidents of being under the influence reported, and two arrests reportedly made of both possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, according to weekend booking logs.

Both the number of drug- and alcohol-related arrests and the total number of arrests reported decreased by roughly 19 percent when compared to the previous weekend, where a total of 47 arrests were reported, 27 of which were related to drugs and alcohol, according to officials.

Before that, neither of the first two weekends of the month saw 20 drug- and alcohol-related arrests made, with 16 such arrests reported during the first weekend of November and 18 reported during the next weekend.

Slightly more than half of the arrests made over the weekend were for individuals who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while only one arrest was made for an individual who reported being homeless.
