Nearly half of the arrests reported in Santa Clarita over the weekend were related to drugs and alcohol; however, the number of such arrests has decreased since the previous weekend, officials said.
Between Friday, Jan. 3 and Sunday, Jan. 5, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office made 29 arrests within the Santa Clarita Valley, according to weekend arrest records.
Of those arrests, 14 were related to drugs and alcohol, with four reported instances of DUI, four reported arrests for possession of a controlled substance, four reported incidents of being under the influence, and one reported arrest for possession of narcotics paraphernalia, according to booking logs.
The previous holiday weekend saw more overall arrests, at a total of 46 arrests, with 27 of those being drug- and alcohol-related. This weekend’s drug- and alcohol-related arrests represented 14 out of 29 total arrests.

This represents a roughly 11 percent decrease in such crimes compared to the previous weekend. While drug- and alcohol-related arrests increased over the weekends of December, there was a drop-off in the first weekend of 2020, according to officials.
