The reported amount of arrests over the weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley doubled the amount reported in the previous weekend.
Over the weekend, 50 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, double the 25 arrests from the previous weekend, according to weekend arrest logs.
Out of the 50 arrests, six were on charges of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, an increase of one from the previous weekend.
One such incident of corporal injury on a cohabitant involved the hospitalization of two Newhall residents early Sunday morning.

20 of the 50 weekend arrests, 40 percent, were charges related to drugs and alcohol. Five of the drug/alcohol charges were reported as drivers under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both. Nine of those 20 arrests were reported as possession of a controlled substance or narcotics.
Out of the 50 total reported arrests, 15 arrested individuals were residents outside of Santa Clarita, consistent with the previous two weekends.
Not included in that count were seven transient individuals, who were charged with possession of a controlled substance, and under the influence of a controlled substance.
One transient was charged with possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault another.
16 of the weekend arrests were felonies out of 50 total arrests, more than double the previous weekend’s seven felony arrests. One of these arrests was a Canyon Country resident, charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, whose bail was set at $130,000.
