Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Round-Up: Drug, Alcohol Arrests Down

About 54 percent of the arrests reported in Santa Clarita over the weekend were related to drugs and alcohol, a 6 percent decrease in the number of such arrests since the previous weekend, officials said.

Between Friday, March 6 and Sunday, March 8, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office made 39 arrests in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to weekend arrest records.

Of those 39 arrests, three were related to drugs and alcohol, with 10 reported instances of DUI, six arrests for possession of a controlled substance and one for being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

The previous weekend saw fewer overall arrests at a total of 39, with 23 of those being drug- and alcohol-related. This weekend’s drug- and alcohol-related arrests represented 21 out of 39 total arrests.

A total of 17 of the arrests made were for individuals who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while four were reportedly homeless, according to weekend arrest records.

In total, 15 people were arrested on felony charges, an increase from the previous weekend’s 10 felony arrests.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
