A person with the legal name Sexy Vegan was arrested in Newhall Thursday for sexual assault on an animal after he allegedly posted a video to social media, officials said.
Sexy Vegan, born Hansel Marion DeBartolo III, 37, was taken into custody by deputies after an investigation stemming from a social media post, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Detectives found a video on social media of the suspect performing an act of bestiality,” Miller said.
After investigation, detectives served a search and arrest warrant for the suspects home on DeWolfe Road in Newhall, according to Miller.
The suspect was on probation for an unrelated charge outside of the Santa Clarita area, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Two dogs were removed from the home by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, Miller said.
Sexy Vegan is being charged with one misdemeanor count of sexual assault on an animal and one misdemeanor count of posting obscene matter, according to Paul Eakins with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
“The investigation is still active and ongoing,” Miller said.
The suspect told Sheriff’s officials his occupation was a 2020 presidential candidate, according to arrest logs, but no filings had been made with the Federal Election Committee as of Friday.
Sexy Vegan has appeared twice on the Dr. Phil Show, with the first appearance for an episode titled, “My Brother Changed His Name to ‘Sexy Vegan,’ Wears Speedos in Public and is Spending My Mom’s $11 Million Inheritance.”
The suspect is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on $35,000 bail and is expected to appear in court for arraignment Friday.
