Suspect Rams Police Car, Leads CHP On High-Speed Pursuit

A stolen vehicle suspect was arrested after he allegedly crashed into a California Highway Patrol (CHP) vehicle and led officers on a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph early Thursday morning.

At 12:32 a.m. Thursday, CHP Newhall Area officers located a 2021 Ford Bronco stopped at Indian Canyon Trailhead on Soledad Canyon Road, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, a spokesperson for the CHP office.

“Officers discovered the vehicle was a reported stolen vehicle and activated their emergency overhead lights conducting an enforcement stop,” Burgos-Lopez said.

The driver of the Ford allegedly shifted into reverse ramming the CHP patrol vehicle twice, and then fled the scene which led to a high-speed pursuit, according to officials.

“The patrol vehicle was not disabled and officers were able to pursue the stolen Ford,” Burgos-Lopez said. “The suspect fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph and conducted multiple vehicle code violations in his attempt to escape law enforcement. The CHP unit was able to safely conduct a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) to bring the pursuit to an end.”

After the successful PIT maneuver the suspect fled on foot, before being taken into costudy by CHP officers near eas Avenue S and 41st Street East in Palmdale.

Kevin Alexis Duran, 26, from Palmdale, was arrested for evading, unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle/stolen vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon, all felonies, according to Burgos-Lopez.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
