Valencia Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested On Multiple Misdemeanor, Felony Charges

A Valencia man was arrested Saturday for allegedly being involved in two hit-and-run collisions and driving under the influence of a controlled substance, along with other felony charges, officials said.

Around 5 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to Newhall for reports of a hit-and-run traffic collision, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported that a male adult driver collided his vehicle into another vehicle at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway, and sped off,” Miller said.

Minutes later, the same driver was reported to be on Newhall Avenue, where his vehicle allegedly struck a curb and hit an apartment sign, according to officials.

“Deputies were able to catch up with the suspect on Railroad Avenue, where they detained him,” she said.

When deputies made contact with the suspect, they reported he had difficulty keeping his balance, and once placed in the back of a patrol car, he appeared to be falling asleep, Miller said.

“Through tests that were administered in the field, deputies determined that the suspect was under the influence of a controlled substance,” Miller said.

When deputies searched the driver’s vehicle, they found heroin and ammunition. Due to the suspect having a prior felony conviction, he was charged with a felony for allegedly being in possession of ammunition, Miller said.

Matthew Foster, 30, of Valencia, was arrested and charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, Miller said.

Foster was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, with bail set at $35,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
