The City of Santa Clarita, along with the City of Santa Clarita’s Art Commission is recognizing the recent milestone of 2020 graduates in a virtual “Graduation Cap Showcase.”
Interested participants may submit their cap design by submitting a photo of their physical decorated cap or designing a cap using our virtual cap template and uploading the design.
The deadline for submissions had been extended to Monday, June 8, according to organizers.
Many of Santa Clarita’s graduates had plans to decorate their mortarboards and wear them proudly at their school’s ceremonies
Unfortunately, as a result of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing guidelines, this is no longer an option for many.
“The City is hoping to spotlight the creative talents of our 2020 graduating class, while also bringing joy to them and the community through an online gallery of uniquely designed graduation caps,” said City officials.
When submitting an entry online, participants are asked to submit a high resolution cropped JPEG of their decorated cap. Images containing any inappropriate language and content will not be accepted.

In a way, I can’t even fathom the drag it must be to not have a proper graduation for the kids of 2020! I mean, who woulda thunk that, after all your years of schooling, you get there and suddenly all this happens and YOU don’t get to the regular things everyone else gets to have, a formal, a dance, and all that goes with “normal”graduation! Then again you gotta think on the positive side, and that is, this year, 2020 will ALWAYS be remembered in the future by EVERYONE for what went down then, and there’s definitely creative ideas as to how to make the best of it, and the kids are doing just that! Good for them! Every other year will be like, “yeah, yeah” and forgotten but 2020, that’s one for the history books! The year I graduated (a long time ago) doesn’t mean anything to anyone unless it was you that was there then! Here, you were there, you dealt with everything, and in the end it was all good! You’ll be telling your grandkids all about that, and they’ll be all wide-eyed and listening in amazement as you tell ‘em how it was then! In a way, it seems pretty cool to me! That’s what life is, though, isn’t it?! Sometimes you get lemons, and then you turn it into lemonade and make it good! Then you feel good about it!
