College Of The Canyons Classes Can Help You Figure Out Your Path

College of the Canyons Dean of Counseling Clinton Slaughter discusses the various options COC has to offer and why adult students should receive their education with COC.

COC is a community college which has over 200 degree and certificate options for students.

“These programs cover a broad range of topics and potential careers. Whether you are a first-time student, re-entry student, english-language learner, highschool student, someone looking for a single course to upgrade your employment skills or someone interested in lifelong learning, we have options for you” – Clinton Slaughter

COC has a Valencia campus, Canyon Country campus and online classes. While there are still many online class offerings, COC is making the transition to get more classes back in person. They are currently increasing in-person classes and decreasing online class options.

It can be frustrating trying to decide what major you choose straight out of highschool. It almost feels like you have to decide your future life path as soon as you graduate highschool. COC classes can help you figure out your path. COC has a new tool called a program mapper tool.

“That program mapper tool ranges all of the programs and certificates we have into eight different schools. There is applied technology, business, humanities, kinesiology, math, science, health professionals, social and behavioral sciences, visual and performing arts and personal and professional learning.

These programs offer certificates, associates degrees and overall knowledge. Within the programs, you can read the industry outlook, careers and estimated salary. You can also see the courses you would have to take and how long it would take to complete them.

College of the Canyons is also a low-cost alternative if students cannot afford to attend a four year college at the time.

“College of the Canyons does not have any application fees so you can go ahead and apply to the college without having to put down any money whatsoever. Once you’ve applied, we offer non-credit courses which are offered for free. We also have our credit courses which are offered for 46 dollars per unit. There are several federal state and local financial aid programs that are designed to help students pay for college” – Clinton Slaughter
