The Hart District school’s website, CastaicHighSchool.org, has officially been launched, offering the community information on everything from enrollment to academics to athletics and more.

“It’s our only school in the district that is open enrollment, so anyone from anywhere can enroll,” said Mariane Doyle, director of Career Technical Education and Adult Education at the Hart District.

Castaic High School stands apart from other schools with its heavy emphasis on career technical education, and is the only school in the Hart District to offer a career pathway in welding, according to Doyle.

“That is unique to Castaic,” Doyle said. “We don’t have welding anywhere else in the district.”

Hart District officials recently announced that Castaic High School received a $1.8 million facilities grant from the state of California for the creation of the school’s manufacturing and welding building.

The grant not only awards the school nearly $2 million in funding, but also requires the Hart District to match those funds, according to Doyle.

“There is an additional piece of what’s already being spent on Castaic High School that will be used to match that,” Doyle said.

Other career pathways set to be available at Castaic High School that already exist within the district include video production; arts, media and entertainment; medical; and dental, according to Doyle.

However, the medical and dental pathways at the school are expected to bring a new level of career preparation experience for students, as they were both designed and built with the help of industry professionals, Doyle said.

“For dental, we’ve had dentists that have come in and have actually worked with the plans to lay out exactly how they would like to see a classroom operate,” she continued. “The medical program that we will have has actually been given input from several medical doctors.”

In addition, the medical pathway program was designed following the example of the imitation lab at UCLA, Doyle added.

“We are really looking to emulate that same program here at Castaic High School,” she said.
