The station, located at 24320 Main Street in Newhall, will be accepting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Santa Clarita nonprofit organization Help The Children now through the end of December.
“The Gratitude Tree is a great excuse to jump in your car with your kids, family or loved ones and head over to Main Street in Newhall to show your kids how to make a difference in the community,” said Alex Urbina, the project’s creator. “What better way to solidify your act of service than to affirm your gratitude on the tree as a final statement?”
Urbina is a Santa Clarita life coach and host of “The Inspirational Parent” on KHTS AM-1220, and noted the Gratitude Tree is a way for parents and their children to do a good deed and engage in a learning experience together.
Interested youth and parents are encouraged to bring both monetary donations and non-perishable food items such as pasta, jelly, dried rice, beans, canned fruit and canned vegetables to be given directly to Help the Children.
“When my kids were younger, my wife and I would sign up our family to be of service to the community in different ways, like feeding the homeless, dropping off frozen turkeys to families in need, secret Santa for senior citizens,” Urbina said, “all with the intention to teach our children how to be grateful for the lives that they have been given.”
