Kathleen Wood of a Light of Hope says that she is there answering phone calls and will return voicemails if she misses a call. She encourages people to take the step on going to meetings even for parents. Currently they are doing zoom meetings due to COVID-19.

“I would tell parents to take a breath and just make a couple phone calls,” Kathleen said. She doesn’t want people to be sitting at home and have negative thoughts of temptations. “You need to do something,” Kathleen said.

Melissa Flowers of The Way Out Recovery SCV  will be able to help as well if people feel Light of Hope is not the right fit. They Way Out Recovery is another suggestion that they will share.

“The parent getting healthy in that storm and that chaos in their house is the catalyst to have the other family members get healthy too,” Kathleen said.

Kathleen wants the parents to find their peace in the storm that they are going through.

Melissa shares that the outpatient center usually gets phone calls from family members instead of the individual, which is common.

“We have to be okay if our loved on is using or not using and how do you do that,” Melissa said.

Melissa goes on saying that family members need to set boundaries when the addict is trying to get clean.

It is sad how often the addict does things on their own instead on finding a support group to help them through their recovery. “You need those people,” Melissa encourages.

Finding that group will help the recovery process because group members become friends and see the progress that the addict has made.
