Dr. Ginny Veloz of Santa Clarita Hearing Center wants the public to bring the importance of hearing to the forefront.
Dr. Veloz gives an example of if her vision while not wearing her glasses is a bit blurry she can she squints her eyes and can see it a little better. The sad part she says is that many of us do this and this results in fatigue and headaches. This is the same effect with people hard of hearing have.
“It’s the definition and it’s the importance of words and the clarity of what people are saying and so you are squinting with your ears and that is going to put stressors in the body,” she said.
She continues talking about the importance of hearing aids and the positive affect they have on your body, life, and overall health.
“It’s a matter of quality of life,” says Barbara Cochran, co-host of the Senior Hour.

Many people would rather go to a big retail chain store to get their hearing test done by a hearing instrument specialist because the price is cheaper, Dr. Veloz said. The patient will receive hearing aids, but they will not get medical quality behind the test.
“You have to keep in mind they are there to sell you a hearing aid,” says Dr. Ginny Veloz. “That’s it. That’s their job.”
