One-year-old terrier mix Precious has been patiently waiting for her forever home at Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita the last few months after she was rescued from the Castaic Shelter.

“We were just drawn to her — she’s beautiful and she just ran up to us,” said Dani Caouette, the shop’s owner and Precious’ foster mom. “She’s young, she’s lively, spunky.”
Because Precious is still fearful of strangers — particularly men — she needs an adopter who is willing to be patient with her while she warms up to them.

“We just need to find a particular home that has some patience for her. She’s been through a lot in her first year,” Caouette said. “I’ve seen her true side, I’ve seen her when she wakes up and she plays and runs and skips like a baby goat, and she’s just a sweetheart.”
Precious gets along well with Caouette’s small dogs, and loves to sit in her lap on the couch.
“She loves to be by your side, she loves to be with you,” Caouette said. “I think there’s a perfect home for every dog, and so sometimes it takes a little longer, but we’ll find her a home.”
Precious is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Her adoption fee is $350, and includes in-home training, a bag of Zignature dog food, a halter, leash, collar, bed and toys.
“All of our adoptions include in-home training, which we think is very important — a well-trained dog is one that’s in the home, not in our shelters,” Caouette said. “It also comes with … everything you need to get started.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
