The Santa Clarita City Council recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a proclamation at their regular meeting on Tuesday.
The City Council also recognized Jan. 17th as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, granting the proclamation to William S. Hart Union District Board President Cherise Moore.
“I accept this proclamation on behalf of the Human Relations Round Table and everyone in Santa Clarita who believes in Martin Luther King Jr’s vision,” said Moore.
“The City recognizes the work of Martin Luther King and Jan. 17 as a special holiday of remembrance,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.
At the beginning of the meeting Councilmember Cameron Smyth began with stating 10 prominent Martin Luther King Jr. quotes.
The City’s first Unity Walk is scheduled for that Monday at Central Park beginning at 9 a.m. to recognize the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is open to anyone who wishes to participate.

Right, Max. The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was made a national holiday in 1983. It only took the SCV City Council 39 years to catch up.
