Medical marijuana is currently legal, but Proposition 64 legalizes the substance for adults 21 and older, along with sales and cultivation taxes.
A “Yes” vote supports the legalization of marijuana and hemp, while a “No” vote opposes the legalization.
Supporters of the proposition are referring to the proposition as the “Adult Use of Marijuana Act.”
“The disastrous war on marijuana in California continues to ensnare thousands of people – particularly young people of color – in the criminal justice system every year, said Margaret Dooley-Sammuli, a criminal justice and drug policy director for ACLU of California in a prepared statement to KHTS AM-1220. “It is time to move from prohibition to regulation. Prop 64 will establish a controlled and regulated market for adults, significantly reduce the harm done to young people under current marijuana laws, and generate substantial revenue for drug education and for the communities most devastated by the war on drugs.”
Those who oppose the measure argue the possibility of increasing traffic fatalities and the inability for the substance to be controlled throughout communities, according to the website BallotPedia.

This is going to be fraught with problems and only point to the problem marijuana already is as part of a “multi substance ” abuse epidemic and will not rid of illicit pot vein grown and sold in California. Taxation and allowing individuals to grow their own will create underground MJ businesses evading the state regulations and taxes. It will pass of course–but solve nothing
Downright dangerous for the developing brain (which continues until the mid-20’s). It’s just another mind-altering substance to use and abuse.
If you oppose pot for being mind altering, then you must fight to bring back prohibition or you are a blatant hypocrite.
