Hart is steamrolling through the Foothill League with no signs of slowing down any time soon. Friday, the Indians moved to 6-0 in league by drubbing Saugus, 65-30.
The game was over midway through the 2nd quarter where Hart was up 28-4 at one point. A perfect 10-0 Foothill League record is within the Indians’ grasp. On the other hand, Saugus has lost four consecutive games.
The Golden Valley Grizzlies (4-2) continue to stave off the rest of the league for second place. GV won a nailbiter against rival Canyon, 72-73, to cap off a crazy week that started with the incident at West Ranch Tuesday.
Valencia climbed back to an even 3-3 in league play after defeating rival West Ranch, 64-58. Valencia’s Isaac Davis led the Viking with 16 points and Austin Galuppo scored a game-high 17 for the Wildcats.
Scary moment in the final minutes for the Vikings when Chibuzo Ikonte went down clutching his lower left leg after grabbing a rebound. The senior was playing in just his third game in over two years due to an enlarged heart. He couldn’t put any weight on his left leg and needed help to get off the court.
Part One of the season series between rivals Trinity Classical Academy (5-0) and Santa Clarita Christian (5-1) took place on Bross Court at The Master’s College Saturday, and it was Trinity who emerged victorious.
Do-everything TCA athlete Ian Caddow led the Knights to the 56-45 Heritage League victory with 16 points. The Cardinals and Knights will complete the season series this coming Saturday at The Master’s College.
Santa Clarita High School Girls Basketball
Foothill League girls basketball standings are split about as evenly as possible between the top three teams and the bottom three, and it was especially glaring when the top three played the bottom three last Friday.
Valencia (6-0) ran West Ranch out of the gym in the 1st half outscoring the Wildcats 49-22 en route to a 76-42 win. League MVP favorite Kayla Konrad was unstoppable from the field shooting 9-13 for 23 points. The Vikings shot 53% from the field as a team.
It didn’t go much better for Golden Valley or Saugus.
Nicole Benz (game-high 16 points) and the Hart Indians (4-2) blew past the Centurions (1-5), 57-33, while the Canyon Cowboys (5-1) handled the Grizzlies (1-5) on the road, 52-27.
Santa Clarita High School Boys Soccer
The Valencia Vikings (6-0) needed a second half winner to defeat rival West Ranch (2-3-1), 1-0 and secure another clean sheet, the 8th in a row. The Vikings have not conceded a goal since December 29th, scoring 26 times since the last one was put past them.
Saugus (3-2-1) is heating up offensively, scoring 13 goals in its last two games after a 6-1 shellacking of Golden Valley. The Grizzlies have yet to get a point (win or draw) in league play.
The defending champs Hart got back on track against rival Canyon, 2-0. The Indians owned the Cowboys this year, with a 6-0 goal differential in the season series.
Santa Clarita High School Girls Soccer
There were three one-goal games in Foothill League girls soccer Friday evening.
Canyon’s comeback against Hart (5-0-1) came up just short in an exciting 3-2 match. Hart is on a four game winning streak.
Right on the Indians’ heels are the Valencia Vikings (5-1), who picked up a 2-1 victory over West Ranch.
Golden Valley got its second league win Friday over the same team they beat the first time around, Saugus, 1-0.
COC Basketball
The Lady Cougars continue to storm through WSC competition, recording their 13th win in a row Saturday with an 81-69 home win over Santa Monica. The trio of Erin Kiley, Hannah Green and Monica Freidl scored 17 points each to lead the Cougars.
The Master’s College
No. 12 TMC Lady Mustangs picked up a huge GSAC win (and 16th in a row overall) Saturday, downing Vanguard 58-55. The Mustangs have not lost since November 21.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Vin Scully plans to complete his 67-year career in broadcasting with the season-ending series against the Giants in San Francisco. Six-plus decades of brilliance coming to a close in 2016.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers were blown out at home by the visiting Charlotte Hornets and it was a pitiful scene.
LA shot under 34% from two and just under 28% from three.
The Hornets had more points after three quarters (83) than the Lakers finished with for the entire game (82).
