The Hart High School boys volleyball program has found its next leader in a familiar face.

According to an Instagram post from the Hart Boys Volleyball program, Carsten “CJ” Fry has been named the new Varsity Head Coach, becoming both a former player returning to lead his alma mater and the youngest varsity boys volleyball head coach in the Foothill League at just 23 years old.

Fry, a member of Hart High School’s Class of 2021 and former Hart volleyball player, brings years of experience and deep ties to the program despite his age.

The post highlighted Fry’s 12-year connection to Hart volleyball, beginning as a sibling involved in the program before becoming a player himself. Since graduating, Fry has continued building his coaching resume, serving as Hart’s Frosh Coach, Varsity Assistant Coach and JV Head Coach.

Beyond Hart, Fry has coached more than 10 club volleyball teams over the last six years and has also contributed to both the Hart and Golden Valley girls volleyball programs.

Fry now takes over a Hart boys volleyball team looking to rebound after a challenging 2026 season. The Hawks finished 9-15 overall and 3-9 in Foothill League play, missing the CIF-SS playoffs.

According to the Instagram announcement, Fry’s vision for the program extends beyond wins and losses.

His goals include building a culture centered around community, discipline and pride in representing Hart High School while creating an atmosphere that reconnects students, families, alumni and the broader community with Hart volleyball.

“Having the opportunity to lead the same program that helped shape me as a student-athlete is something I am incredibly grateful for,” said Fry in the post. “I’m excited to build on our tradition, strengthen our culture, and work alongside our players as we write the next chapter of Hart Volleyball.”
