Hart Claims Boys, Girls Soccer Foothill League Players Of The Year

The Foothill League boys and girls soccer all-league selections and player of the year honors were announced this week, and Hart seniors Alyssa Irwin and Nicholas Woll brought home the girls and boys player of the year award, respectively.

The Hart girls program has proven itself to be the class of the Foothill League, as they claimed their seventh consecutive league title this season, and Irwin proved integral to that success.

In addition to Irwin’s player of the year award, this year’s Hart roster boasted six selections among the All-Foothill League first-team, second-team and honorable mentions, tied with Valencia for the most in the league.

Irwin’s player of the year selection marked the second occasion she has been recognized with the award, as she had previously been honored with it after her junior year campaign last year.

While Hart’s second-round exit against Centennial marked the end of Irwin’s high school soccer career, her playing years are still ahead of her, as she’s expected to head for the coast next year to join the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho women’s soccer program next season.

Hart High School picked up both the boys and girls player of the year award, and senior forward Nicholas Woll was a worthy recipient.

The senior forward was one of the primary engines that drove a Hart offense that averaged 2.5 goals per game this season.

The Indians were able to find a winning formula of consistent offense and tough defense with this year’s mix of athletes as they dropped only three games all season and claimed a Foothill League title along the way.

In a mirror of the girls selections, the 2020 boys team had six selections among the All-Foothill League first-team, second-team and honorable mentions, also tied with Valencia for the most in the league.

That group was able to advance to the semifinal of the Division 3 CIF-SS playoffs, but fell in a close one to North High School 4-3.
