Hart Fails To Overcome Early Deficit In Playoff Loss

Hart (7-5) exited the playoffs with a 52-21 road loss to the San Juan Hills Stallions (9-3) on Friday night after they fell down big early and couldn’t rally back.

Hart’s first score didn’t come until midway through the second quarter, at which point the Indians were already down 25-0.

The Stallions came charging out of the gates, scoring on five consecutive drives before the Hart defense was able to come up with their first stop late in the second quarter.

The Hart offense meanwhile came out in a daze, starting the game with a four and out, followed by giving up a sack-fumble at their own 36-yard line.

After the first two drives, the Hart offense seemed to compose themselves and were able to start stringing together some first downs, but they were continually plagued by flags at critical moments.

Hart finally found the endzone for their first score of the night on a methodical 75-yard drive finished off by a 10-yard TD reception to Ryan Tomaszewski with 7:43 in the second quarter.

Quarterback Zach Johnson attempted a hail mary as time expired in the first half, but was intercepted on the goal line and the pick was taken 100 yards for the score.

Hart opened up the second half with back-to-back scoring drives to make it 39-21 with a minute remaining in the third quarter, but it was too little too late for the Indians.

The Stallions tacked on two more scores before it was all said and done for the games final score, 52-21.

With Hart’s loss, the last standing Foothill League team in the CIF playoffs is now West Ranch (10-2) in the Division 7 bracket. They’ll next face Temecula Valley (10-2) next Friday at home.

  1. With the students having no school on Friday after the shootings at that school on Thursday, I think the game should have been postponed.
