Trinity And SCCS Advance To CIF Southern Section Championship Games

The Cardinals make it to a third consecutive CIF SS championship game, and the Knights advance in the Division 5A tournament for the first time.

The Cardinals outlasted the Eagles in overtime to book their spot in a third straight Southern Section final. In three seasons they’ve gone from Division 5AAA all the way to Division 2AA and been the class of each division.

Senior Ty Harper scored 30 points, Josh O’Garro scored 22, Kaleb Lowery added 16 points and Caden Starr chipped in with 13.

Sierra Vista  (16-15-1): 46

2 Trinity Classical Academy: 54

It was a grind-it-out affair last night with points hard to come by, but the Knights were able to just enough to pull away in the fourth quarter.

The Dons tried to stretch the game out in the final two minuts by fouling on every Trinity possession, and the Knights went 13-22 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

When things got stale (and downright sloppy) in the second and third quarters, it was senior Peyton Frazier who kept the Trinity offense afloat. He finished with a game-high 17 points (including 12 in the second half), Kyle Fields added 14 points and John King scored 10.

“We just need to execute,” said head coach Aaron Southwick on what his team needs to do in next week’s championship game. Simply put.
