The Santa Clarita Christian School (SCCS) and Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball teams have each advanced to their respective division’s CIF State tournaments.
SCCS (24-5) claimed their second CIF Southern Section title in three years with a win over St. Francis on Saturday and will now look to carry that momentum with them as they advance to the opening round of the CIF State Division I tournament.
The Cardinals enter the bracket as a six-seed, and are slated to host 11-seed JSerra Catholic High School (24-8) on Tuesday night at home. JSerra enters the matchup coming off of a semifinal loss in the CIF-SS Division 1 tournament to eventual tournament champion Windward.
It was a slow start for the Cardinals in their own championship win, as the team looked a little rattled out of the gate. They settled in and were able to put together a win that showed off the quality of their roster, but they’ll need to come out firing on all cylinders to maximize their run in the state tournament.
Trinity (20-7) came up just short of snagging a CIF-SS Division 5AA title, as they were bested in the championship by Banning High School, 48-43, after breezing through the first three rounds of the postseason.
They have a second chance at playoff glory, however, as they prepare to open up the CIF State Division V playoffs with a road matchup against San Fernando High School (12-16) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
It was an up-and-down season for San Fernando, but they got things clicking at the right time to pull off a CIF City Section Division III championship.
