The names of two children killed in the Saugus High shooting in November of 2019 are now forever immortalized on the entrance sign to Central Park.
The main sign at the main entrance to Central Park has a new addition, with “In Memoriam Gracie Muehlberger and Dominic Blackwell” printed at the bottom in honor of two Saugus High School students who were killed in the shooting on Nov. 14, 2019.
“There are mixed emotions, because you see your daughter’s name on a sign for this kind of reason,” said Gracie’s father Bryan. “I’m so glad to see her name and that there’s recognition for the impact she and Dominic have had on this community, but I wish it wasn’t there.”
Muehlberger mentioned that the families wished to thank two local vendors that helped with the installation, Feathers Signs & Printing and Stay Green Inc. Landscaping, as well as the City of Santa Clarita and Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency.
The Muehlberger and Blackwell families’ journey towards getting their childrens’ names on Central Park started in late spring of 2020, beginning with a social media campaign and petition to bring the idea to the Santa Clarita City Council.

In January, the Santa Clarita City Council approved the design of a memorial plaza at Central Park, which includes two 11-foot obelisks, with murals on each side made from mosaic tiles meant to memorialize 15-year-old Gracie Muehlberger and 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell.
“With the significant role Central Park played in the evacuation and healing process, the City has received numerous requests by residents to memorialize the event and its victims at the park,” reads a statement from the agenda packet of the meeting. “The families have expressed interest in Central Park being dedicated in memory of the victims, Gracie Muehlberger and Dominic Blackwell, and to create a memorial at the entrance of Central Park.”
“They’re wrapping up the architectural diagrams and contractors (…) last I heard they were supposed to start construction in March,” Bryan told KHTS on Friday.
The families hope to have the separate memorial obelisks complete by May.

Why not dedicate the park to fallen law enforcement officers instead of two kids. Let Saugus High name something on their campus, puras pendejadas!
I’d feel better about the memorial if they weren’t suing the school district that has done so much for the families already.
Just rename the city after the kids.
Maybe the state.
Where does it end?
Tragedy is not confined to these two families and they sure haven’t done themselves any favors in the public eye.
Maybe a few million payout will help.
WM S Hart district can you help easy this suffering?
As a SHS family I think this is outrageous. The school and our community came together after this tragedy and supported all of us, especially the families of the victims. This is such a slap in the face to other families who have lost children in tragic ways.
And for may students who are still living with anxiety over the events from that day these obnoxious tributes will be a very public reminder for them of an awful experience and will serve as a source of stress.
From what I have been told, these two families are suing the pants off the school district and expecting to get millions of dollars each. Also that one of the victims dads sits on a city board or counsel.
Well, once again the squeaky wheel gets the prize. Those parents have been whining for over a year. I am so sorry these kids were murdered and feel for the parents but this is like winning the lottery. If you scream loud enough they will bend to your will. Like someone said, just change the city’s name to whoever cries the loudest!
The amount of ignorant comments here is disgusting. If you get angry over a sign change for two dead kids then you clearly have your priorities out of wack and have way too much time on your hands to complain. Grow up.
