With potential power outages being reported by Southern California Edison (SCE) officials in an attempt to prevent brush fire, officials with the William S. Hart Union High School District have elected to institute minimum days on Thursday for six schools within the district.
The William S. Hart Union High School district were notified by Southern California Edison that some schools in the district may lose power as SCE officials work to prevent brush fires, as strong Santa Ana winds are forecast for Thursday.
“We were notified that the circuits in the district for multiple schools have the potential to be shut off starting Thursday,” wrote Mike Kuhlman, Deputy-Superintendent for the Hart District, in an email to parents Wednesday.

As a result of these potential outages, the following schools are set to be on minimum day schedules, according to Kuhlman:
- La Mesa Junior High School
- Sierra Vista Junior High School
- Golden Valley high school
- Canyon High school
- Sequoia School
- Hart @ Home
“If a school site loses power prior to the start of classes, the District may cancel school. In that event, the District will notify parents that school will be cancelled for that site,” Kuhlman wrote. “If a school site loses power after the start of classes, staff is prepared to continue instruction until the end of the school’s regular minimum day schedule.”
Additionally, the normal transportation schedule that would come with a minimum day is set to also be in effect, according to officials.
A minimum day for Friday had not been confirmed as of Wednesday evening.
Should power outages occur, Kuhlman wrote that parents can expect updated communication from the District in three different ways:
- Updates can be viewed on Hart District Website here
- The District will send out Call/Text/Email notifications using our mass communication system
- Updates can be heard on the radio via KHTS 98.1 FM / AM 1220

This is their way of covering their liability after seeing what happened in Paradise and the massive restitution payouts?? Hey SCE! Use your billions to fix/convert the power poles in rural areas so they don’t cause fires instead of pulling the plug on thousands of people!
Makes me wonder just how long the power companies have been causing fires…
