Firefighters Respond To Santa Clarita Brush Fire

A Santa Clarita brush fire broke out in Canyon Country Sunday afternoon.

The brush fire, named the Golden Fire, was reported at about 1:38 p.m. Sunday near Sierra Highway and Golden Valley Road, off of the 14 Freeway, according to initial reports from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

UPDATE: 3:08 p.m.

Forward progress on the Golden Fire has been stopped at approximately 8 acres. Roadways in the area are expected to reopen shortly.

UPDATE: 2:02 p.m.

The southbound 14 Freeway exit to Placerita Canyon has been closed, according to the California Highway Patrol. Additional closures are expected on Golden Valley Road between Sierra Highway and Robert C. Lee Parkway (Golden Valley High School).

The Golden Fire has grown to approximately 4 to 5 acres in size. No structures are threatened, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Smoke could be seen coming from a burning hillside north of Placerita Canyon Road, according to California Highway Patrol incident logs.
