A Gorman brush fire broke out near the 5 Freeway Friday morning, and was quickly contained, officials said.

The brush fire, dubbed the Bear Fire, was first reported around 10 a.m. Friday on the southbound 5 Freeway south of Smokey Bear Road in Gorman, said Austin Bennett, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a 100-by-100 spot on fire in light to medium fuels,” Bennett said.

Within minutes of arrival, firefighters were able to stop the forward progression of the fire, according to Fire officials.

As of 10:10 a.m., the No. 4 lane of the southbound 5 Freeway at Smokey Bear Road is blocked while firefighters douse all the hot spots, according to the California Highway Patrol.
