A small brush fire in Newhall broke out near Sierra Highway in the Newhall Pass Sunday night, according to officials.
At around 9:46 p.m. Sunday night, firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire off of Sierra Highway in Newhall.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a 30×30 spot fire underneath the 5-14 Freeway split in the Newhall Pass, according to officials.
“They said that two engines could handle it,” said Imy McBride, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “They are putting out right now.”
The small blaze came at a time when the National Weather Service reported critical fire weather conditions due to the high winds and low humidity in the forecast.
“(We are) elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions today through Tuesday,” the National Weather Service tweeted Sunday.
No structures were reported threatened, and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

How did this start? It didn’t just start all by itself. I wish they would put cameras out to find out who is starting these fires. It seems like we have an arsonist with the number and frequency and usually right along the road or freeway.
