Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision, fire and person trapped on the northbound 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road, said Austin Bennett with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“The forest service knocked down the fire and reported there was one person trapped in the overturned vehicle,” Bennett said.
Crews were able to extinguish the grass that was ignited and held the blaze to a 50 by 200 spot, according to Fire officials.
“The patient was extricated by 1:14,” Bennett said. “They were transported to the hospital.”
A helicopter was requested but was quickly canceled once the person had been freed from the vehicle, according to Fire officials.

Louie, thank you. That was my father who was pulled from the wreck this afternoon. Your reporting helped us bear witness to the accident and provided us with a visual of what a horrific event he experienced. By the power and grace of God, he is OK. He’s going to require some surgery, but he’s doing fine — thanks in large part to several good Samaritans and first responders who acted quickly to make sure he was safe, extracted him from his vehicle, and got him to the ER. We count ourselves blessed many times over. Again, Louie, thank you for this video, as it sheds light onto what he experienced and makes us ever so grateful that he lived to tell the tale.
