A GoFundMe page has been created for a young father who was severely injured in a Saugus crash on Thanksgiving, officials said.
Alfredo “Ricky” Lopez was transported to the hospital on Nov. 28 after suffering injuries in a five-vehicle crash, with his Subaru SUV overturning in the collision, said Ana Veronica Mendoza, a family friend, on the GoFundMe page.
One other person was hospitalized, and several others were injured in the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
On Thanksgiving Day, Lopez was on his way home after running some morning errands. He made a short call to his wife, Nayeli Lopez, letting her know he was 15 minutes away from home. He never arrived, reads the fundraiser.
“Thanks to the tracker app on his phone, they realized where he was: a short way from home at a four-way stop intersection on Seco Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive,” Mendoza said.
Lopez’s mother, Victoria, drove to the location, and found herself at the devastating scene, according to the GoFundMe.
“By God’s grace, many good Samaritans came to the rescue. A multi-car crash had occurred, and Ricky, who drove the white Subaru SUV, had taken the greatest hit. When help arrived, Ricky’s heart had stopped,” Mendoza said.

Currently, Lopez is in an “extremely delicate and terrible condition. He suffered severe internal bleeding, which is now under control, although is still happening,” according to Mendoza.
He also has fractured ribs, fractures on his face, pelvis, back and head, and ruptured organs, the fundraiser said.
“His heart was pushed to the limit when the paramedics brought him back, which is now one of the biggest concerns. At the moment he has a pelvic plate holding him together,” added Mendoza.
Lopez has a child who just turned one this past Sunday, and is a newlywed with a wife who left her home in Ensenada to move to the United States, according to the GoFundMe.
“Ricky and his wife have a long road to recovery. Although he’s not out of the woods, with God’s grace, anything is possible. He is here for a reason and the hope and prayer is that he makes a full recovery,” Mendoza said. “Unfortunately, being Ricky was the only breadwinner with a young child, he has limited resources.”
The unplanned hospital bills, therapists and counselors he will need to help him through the recovery process are extremely expensive, according to the GoFundMe.
Lopez is still pending more surgeries for his colon, neck and back this upcoming week, if his heart allows, according to the fundraiser.
“His family thank you for donation and prayer,” Mendoza said. “They truly need them at this moment.”
