A Valencia woman has been identified as the individual killed in a 14 Freeway crash Tuesday evening, officials said.
Ann Catherine Diaz, 57, of Valencia was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner Office.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway patrol 9-1-1 center began receiving calls regarding a Toyota driving erratically at around 90 mph on the northbound 14 Freeway south of Newhall Avenue, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.
For unknown reasons, the Toyota driven by Diaz sideswiped a GMC before exiting at Newhall Avenue, according to Greengard.

When the Toyota exited onto Newhall Avenue, Diaz failed to negotiate the curvature of the roadway, according to a CHP report.
The vehicle continued straight, without braking, and traversed a dry drainage ditch where the vehicle struck a dirt embankment.
“This impact launched (the) vehicle approximately 150 feet before impacting a dirt field to the north of the off-ramp,” Greengard said in a statement.
Diaz, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pinned in the driver’s seat where she had to be extricated by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.
Diaz was pronounced dead on arrival by paramedics, according to Fire officials at the time of the crash.
Speed appears to be a factor in this collision, and Diaz’s impairment is pending a toxicology report from the Coroner, according to CHP officials.
The investigation determined that Diaz was not properly wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
Any witnesses to this collision are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office at 661-294-5540.
