Yet Another 55-Hour Weekend I-210 Closure For San Fernando Valley

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced yet another closure in a long series of shutdowns on the westbound Interstate-210, impacting Santa Clarita drivers.

Caltrans crews are set to fully close the westbound I-210 in Sylmar for a full 55-hour weekend of paving and repair work this coming weekend, Friday, Sept. 10 at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13.

Caltrans warns residents and business owners that during the 55-hour closure they may notice an increase in noise, vibrations, and dust due to the paving and repairing process.

The areas to be shut down include:

  • The full closure of westbound I-210 between I-5 and Roxford Street
  • westbound Polk Street on-ramp
  • westbound Roxford Street on-ramp
  • westbound Yarnell Street on and off-ramp
  • westbound I-210 to I-5 Interchange
  • eastbound Paxton Street off-ramp.

Motorists are recommended by officials to use State Route 118 (SR-118) as an alternate route to the areas of the freeway sections that are closed for maintenance. Motorists are also warned that some of these closures may start and end later and are not strictly bound to the aforementioned timeline.

Officials state that the continual work being done on I-210 is part of a $135.5 million project for repaving the entire surface of all lanes on the I-120 from Wheatland Ave to I-5. The ramps, connectors, and adjacent shoulders are also scheduled to be rehabilitated along with signage, guardrail, and barrier upgrades as well.

This project is funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and is scheduled to continue closures for long-term repairs until Winter 2023/2024.
