A chance of rain and thunderstorms are predicted in the mountains surrounding the Santa Clarita Valley with a slight chance of precipitation reaching the city on Friday.
Officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) are predicting thunderstorms for the mountains surrounding Santa Clarita, with the strongest storms expected over the San Gabriel Mountains, said Bryan Lewis, meteorologist with the NWS.
“There is a chance for thunderstorms kicking off late afternoon into the evening,” Lewis said. “The Greatest area of concern is the eastern San Gabriel mountains and the deserts, but there is certainly a chance for (Santa Clarita) as well.”
There is a 30 percent chance the Santa Clarita Valley could see rain, according to Lewis.
The mountains surrounding the area including the I-5 Corridor and Agua Dulce have a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, according to officials.
As of the publication of this article, no flash flood warnings have been issued for areas surrounding the Santa Clarita Valley.
Beginning Saturday into next week, conditions are expected to heat up into the 90s before a slight cooldown into the following weekend.
