Multiple Wind Advisories Issued In Santa Clarita Weather Forecast

Both a Wind Advisory and a High Wind Watch have been issued in the Santa Clarita weather forecast for the weekend, with “damaging winds” of up 60 mph bringing the possibility of power outages.

For the third weekend in a row, winds in the Santa Clarita Valley have prompted meteorologists with the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a Wind Advisory for the area.

“Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,” the NWS advisor reads. “Power outages are possible.”

For the duration of the Wind Advisory, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Friday and last through 10 p.m. Saturday, north winds between 20 mph and 30 mph are forecast for the Santa Clarita Valley, with meteorologists expecting gusts of up to 45 mph.

Then, after the conclusion of the Wind Advisory, a High Wind Watch is then set to take effect, with northeast winds between 25 mph and 35 mph forecasted, and gusts of 60 mph expected.

“Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.” the NWS watch reads. “Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”

The High Wind Watch is scheduled to last through Sunday afternoon.

As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, no areas of the Santa Clarita Valley were under consideration for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) by Southern California Edison (SCE) as a result of the wind.

  1. I’ve lived in Santa Clarita for 24 years now and I have NEVER in that time seen constant high winds like we have had for the last year or two. It’s now the norm to hear of a high wind warning, it’s constant, can’t seem to go a full week without some wind warning or advisory.

Don’t know if it has to deal with global warming or what but getting really old especially during fire season which now seems to be (like the winds) year around.

Oh well can’t control mother nature I guess

  2. I think this winter’s repeated high winds also has to do with the La Niña conditions. I think it’s also the reason why we saw the “once every 5-10 years” 75-80+ mph wind gusts back in late January.

In addition to global warming, I think human stupidity adds to the problem with all the brush fires we see in SCV. It’s a double-digit number when you count the number of times a brush fire has started from a vehicle fire off the 5/14 freeways, the Old Road or Sierra Highway. We’re talking about vehicle fires….this should NOT happen. Modern vehicles are not built to catch fire, but certainly can if you don’t maintain them. Learn to keep better care of your cars/trucks/big rigs. Oh, and learn to tie up your tow chains better so they stop sending up sparks while being dragged on the freeways.

  3. Somebody needs to tell Channel 7 Magic Mountain Truck Trail is above Sand Canyon.
