Launched in 2007, Nixle provides an open communication and engagement platform that connects public safety, municipalities, schools, businesses and residents with the communities they serve, according to the website.

“Nixle is an awesome tool,” said Kyle Jellings of KHTS AM-1220, who co-hosted the show with Duxbury. “You can sign up to stay informed about what’s going on in and around the Santa Clarita Valley.”

Residents can sign up to receive text messages, emails, voice messages, social media alerts and alerts through the Nixle mobile app regarding crime in the area, as well as community events hosted by the Sheriff’s Station throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

“It’s very easy to get on,” Duxbury said, explaining that interested residents can simply type the words “Santa Clarita Nixle” into any search engine.

“The Nixles will pop up, and you can subscribe to your specific area,” Duxbury continued. “You can subscribe to every area in Santa Clarita if you want, and then you can get all those alerts when they come.”

However, residents who only wish to receive alerts in their area can do this as well.

“Say you live in Canyon Country,” Jellings added, “and you don’t want stuff in Stevenson Ranch. You can set it up to where you have the option.”
