House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy Meets With KHTS Washington DC Group

The KHTS Washington DC delegation held a 30-minute private meeting with House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy.

McCarthy discussed the overall climate in DC. He focused on runaway inflation, increase in crime due to calls throughout the country to defund the police and DAs that are focusing on criminals’ rights instead of victims’ rights. He also discussed our border that has flowed unchecked, allowing over 2 million illegal immigrants to pass through in the past year alone. This has led to a rampant Fentanyl crisis, the number one killer of our youth.

McCarthy also shared how fortunate we are to have Mike Garcia as our representative in Congress.

The KHTS Washington DC trip, along with our annual KHTS Sacramento trip has been taking place since 2006. This week, over two dozen Santa Clarita community leaders traveled to Washington DC for three days of advocacy on behalf of our valley. Day one was extremely beneficial. The second day of meetings proved no different.

The trip was arranged by KHTS radio and Congressman Mike Garcia.

The KHTS group is a mixture of valley leaders from both sides of the aisle. They include representatives from College of the Canyons, Cal Arts, Santa Clarita Water, and the City of Santa Clarita. Attendees include Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem, Jason Gibbs and City Council Candidate, Denise Lite.

In addition to the meeting with Kevin McCarthy, the group met with representatives from the National Endowment for The Humanities and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation.

Earlier in the morning participants had a private tour and lunch at the Hillwood Estate, the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, the wealthiest American Woman of the 20th Century.

A private dinner was held Tuesday evening at the iconic Capitol Hill Club. Keynote speaker Congressman Darrell Issa shared his perspective on the current challenges in Washington. He too, praised Congressman Garcia’s work, especially in understanding our military obligations. Issa feels Congressional hearings should take place to take a hard look at the mistakes made in the Government’s response to Covid to prevent those mistakes from being repeated if we have another epidemic.

The KHTS Washington DC trip ends on Wednesday with more meetings and a lunch hosted by Congressman Garcia.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
