Drunk driving is the leading cause of death in many countries. The United States of America is on top of the list, reporting thousands of deaths due to reckless and drunk driving every year. Thousands of lives are lost due to negligence and failing to follow driving rules and regulations. Most of these wrongful deaths occur around the holiday season. Organizations develop plans in an attempt to ensure the driving is as safe as possible during the holidays. Banding people from diving under the influence of drugs is vital for people’s safety and keeping the peace on the street during the holidays. But it’s crowded and pretty much everyone is drunk! There are many things you need to know if you have been involved in an accident where the other party was driving after a Christmas social gathering and decided they’re not too drunk to drive. Drunk driving is preventable and you should be able to avoid it easily and not put yourself and everyone else in harm’s way.
It’s Best Not to Drive
Even though this doesn’t necessarily eliminate the chances of you getting an injury as a result of an accident caused by a drunk driver, avoiding driving is a great decision around the holidays. If you need to go places away from home, avoid going on road-trips during the holiday seasons- try to book a bus, train, or plane ticket to go to your destination. Even though all these options may be more expensive at this time of the year, if you plan for it earlier, you will be able to book a transportation method at a very reasonable price. Precautionary actions are vital to ensure your safety and your family’s as well. Make sure you don’t drive if you’re feeling a bit too tipsy, dizzy, sleepy, or have a funny feeling in your stomach. Learn to control your drinks or to know when it’s not a good idea for you to be behind a wheel. Make sure to call a cab service or a car to pick you up and drive you wherever you want instead of putting your life and others in danger.
Look Out for Warning Signs
When you notice signs of drowsiness and fatigue and analyze your symptoms you will be better equipped to make a wise decision, especially during the holiday season. Statistics show that most driving accidents that take place during the holidays are the result of young drivers neglecting impairments and driving recklessly. Research shows that most auto accidents that occur around Christmas are because of people between twenty and thirty years old driving around drunk during the holidays. If you have been involved in an accident where the other party was drunk, make sure to contact your lawyer and talk to the police about his situation before leaving the scene of the accident. This way you can be compensated for the damages, injuries, and medical bills. Your lawyer can handle all the paperwork and documents for you to ensure you’re getting the compensation you deserve. Being in a rush while driving in bad weather and road conditions can be very risky if you’re not experienced.

You Must Check the Weather Conditions Regularly
The weather is beautiful during the holiday season, we all love walking around in the rain or running around in the snow with our children. It’s a great season to enjoy the chilly and magical weather. However, this isn’t exactly the ideal weather for driving, especially if you’re going to be consuming alcohol to stay warm and fuzzy, or even if you’re simply tired from all of the running around you’ve been doing for the holiday season. If the weather is not safe or there are signs of it getting worse, try not to get behind the wheel. If you have to drive, make sure you have enough time to avoid rushing. Most car accidents that take place during the holiday season occur because the vehicle is not well-equipped to be on the road during harsh weather and the driver’s responsiveness is impaired due to high alcohol blood levels or even just fatigue and their inability to focus.
Finally, make sure that you avoid leaving your house too late, plan for trips, and leave early so you’re not in a rush. Make sure you’re alert and focused if you’re planning to consume alcohol and opt for calling a car or a cab service instead as mentioned above. If you are going somewhere but are unable to drive back, consider letting someone else drive your car or leave it behind and come back for it the next morning. It’s better than driving and getting yourself and other people in trouble because of your actions.
