Santa Clarita life coach Alex Urbina was live on-air this week on his weekly radio show to talk about what he calls “teen-glish.” Teen-Glish, according to Alex, is a phrase he coined to describe the verbage teens use when they want to reiterate something important but can’t  articulate it.

“I often times ask kids what it is that they want or need from their parents,” said Alex, “I was surprised by many of the answers, and actually compiled them into my most recent book.”

Many kids answered that they need more patience from their parents. Others said that they need their parents to be better listeners.

“When I asked what they meant by be a better listener, kids responded with – they wanted their parents to actually hear their ideas and not dismiss them so quickly,” said Alex.

Parents need to validate their kids, and encourage them to believe in themselves, according to Alex.

Another answer that kids gave when asked what they needed from their parents was that they needed to be reassured. They felt like they needed to be encouraged more than they were, said Alex.

Alex has worked with hundreds of different school districts, community centers, universities and non- profits both with the states and abroad. He takes on a limited number of one-on-one clients per year including couples, coaches, educators and other trainers.
