Castaic officials are announcing the application period for residents considering a run for the area’s advisory group, the Castaic Area Town Council, in the November 2014 election.

“Residents interested in serving on the town council must meet certain requirements and submit an application postmarked no later than Oct. 15,” according to a news release from Castaic Area Town Council officials.

Interested candidates can bring their application to the Oct. 15 meeting.

The seats being filled are two appointed positions that became open last year after a pair of resignations.

The responsibilities of town council members include reviewing new developments in the Castaic area, voting on recommendations to the county, understanding current zoning codes governing a proposed development and receiving input from the Castaic community.

The Town Council, for example, took a 6-4 vote in September to accept a deal to support the Chiquita Canyon landfill expansion.

Interested individuals must submit a letter stating why they are interested in serving on the town council along with a list of qualifications.

The Castaic Area Town Council is an advisory board for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the election will be held Nov. 15 in Castaic.
